Privacy policy

Miimo lets you prepare a gift to be discovered step by step. To do so, we process some personal data. This page explains which, why, and what you can do with it.

1. Who is responsible for your data?

The Miimo service (“miimo.gift”) is published by [Publisher's name or company name — to be completed], [Publisher's address, Cameroon — to be completed]. For any question about your data, write to [contact e-mail address — to be completed].

2. The data we process

Depending on whether you create a Miimo or receive one, we process:

  • If you create a Miimo (the creator): your phone number, your first name, the content you write (title, opening message, texts, reveals), the photos you add, the first name and phone number of the person you give the Miimo to, any amounts and the history of your payments.
  • If you receive a Miimo (the recipient): your phone number (to check that the gift is really for you), verification codes, your progress in the gift (completed steps, opening date) and, if there is money, the Mobile Money number it is paid to.
  • If you are invited to a group Miimo (the guest): your first name and phone number, entered by the person who invited you, the verification codes we send you, and what you write yourself: texts, answers, photos and places in your steps.
  • Technical data: IP address, type of device and browser, error logs, needed for the security and proper functioning of the service. Your session is kept in your browser (see “Cookies and storage”).

We do not ask for a password, an identity document or precise location.

3. Why we use it

  • Sign you in and secure your access, with a code received by SMS or WhatsApp.
  • Deliver the gift: send the link to the recipient and show them the content step by step.
  • Handle the money: collect the creator's payment, release it along the journey and pay it to the recipient.
  • Let a guest take part: send them a code, receive their steps, then show them to the organizer, to the other guests if the organizer decided so, and to the recipient.
  • Keep you informed: a message to the creator when their gift is opened or completed.
  • Prevent fraud, abuse and unwanted sending, handle reports, and enforce our terms of use.
  • Help you: find out why a message did not arrive, correct a wrong number, resend a link.
  • Meet our legal obligations.

The legal bases are the performance of the service you request, our legitimate interest in protecting the service, our legal obligations and, where the law requires it, your consent. We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Who we share it with

We use providers who process data on our behalf, only as far as necessary:

  • MyCoolPay: payment by Mobile Money (MTN MoMo, Orange Money), holding of funds between payment and release, and payout to the recipient.
  • Cloudinary: hosting of photos, in private access: only the gift's recipient reaches them, through signed and temporary addresses.
  • MboaSMS: sending verification codes by SMS.
  • Meta (WhatsApp Business): sending the gift link, notifications to the creator and, if you enable it, verification codes by WhatsApp.
  • Website and API hosts (for example Vercel and our server host): running the service.

Some of these providers are located outside Cameroon. We make sure they offer safeguards suited to protecting your data. We may also disclose data to the authorities when the law requires us to.

The recipient sees the creator's first name (“From …”), unless the creator chooses to stay anonymous: they then read the text chosen instead. Anonymity applies toward the recipient, not toward Miimo. The creator sees the recipient's progress, never their payment data.

5. How long we keep data

  • Verification codes expire after 5 minutes.
  • The recipient's session lasts 12 hours; the creator's lasts 30 days, unless they sign out.
  • A draft and its photos are deleted when you delete the draft. Photos that were never used are purged automatically.
  • A guest's session lasts 12 hours. Their steps are kept like the rest of the gift; if the organizer removes a guest, their steps and photos are deleted.
  • Gifts sent and their content are kept as long as your account exists, so that the recipient can view them again.
  • Payment and payout data is kept for the period required by the applicable accounting and financial regulations, then deleted or anonymized.

The exact periods may change; we will adjust them here. If you ask for your account to be deleted, we erase your data, except what the law requires us to keep.

6. Your rights

In accordance with the personal data protection regulations applicable in Cameroon, you can:

  • access the data we hold about you and obtain a copy;
  • have it corrected;
  • ask for it to be deleted;
  • object to certain processing or ask for it to be restricted;
  • withdraw your consent where the processing relies on it.

To exercise a right, write to [contact e-mail address — to be completed] from an address or with a number that lets us recognize you. We reply within a reasonable time. If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can contact the competent Cameroonian personal data protection authority.

7. Cookies and storage in your browser

Miimo does not use advertising cookies or tracking devices. We only keep in your browser what is necessary: your session (creator or recipient), your choice of light or dark theme, your choice of language, and the notifications you have already seen. You can erase them at any time from your browser settings; you will then have to sign in again.

8. The memory video

At the end of a gift, the recipient can create a memory video. It is made on their phone, from the gift's content, and is not sent anywhere by Miimo. It may contain the creator's messages and photos: the recipient is responsible for what they choose to share.

9. Who at Miimo can see your content

The messages and photos of a gift are only meant for its recipient. However, an authorized member of our team can view them, only for support (for example to help you when a gift does not arrive), moderation and fighting abuse (for example after a recipient's report, or at your request).

  • Every viewing is recorded in a log: who, when and on which gift.
  • Phone numbers are masked there, and the gift's secret link is never shown.
  • The team can add internal notes on a gift or an account; they are never visible to the creator or the recipient.

If a recipient reports a gift, we keep that report (the gift concerned, the reason and what they wrote) without any information about them. We may remove a gift or suspend an account in case of abuse.

10. Group Miimo: who sees what you add

In a group Miimo, the organizer invites loved ones by their number; each one writes their own steps.

  • The organizer sees everything you add. They can accept, hide, edit or remove it, and they decide the final order.
  • The other guests see your steps only if the organizer chose that everyone sees everything; otherwise each one only sees their own.
  • The recipient discovers your accepted steps with your first name, when they reach them.
  • Miimo only accesses it, as with any content, for support and moderation, and every viewing is logged.

You have no account. Your number is only used to send you your codes and to check that it is really you. The organizer must have your agreement before giving us your number; if they didn't, or if you want your steps and number deleted, write to us (see “Your rights”).

11. Security

Exchanges are encrypted (HTTPS). Verification codes are stored in encrypted form and have a short lifetime. Photos are private. Access to a gift requires both the link and confirmation of the recipient's phone number. No measure is perfect: if you notice a problem, let us know at the address above.

12. Children

Miimo is not intended for children under 16 without the consent of a parent or legal guardian. If you think a child has given us data without that consent, contact us so that we delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this page, for example when we add a provider or a feature. The date of the last update is shown at the top. In case of a significant change, we will let you know in the service.
